BIG or SMALL, let's save them ALL!

That was my favorite quote yesterday at the 6th Annual Liz Hurley Ribbon Run. This was an awesome day. Liz Hurley is a local news anchor that was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998. The following year the Liz Hurley Breast Cancer Fund at Huntsville Hospital Foundation was established for the purpose of creating awareness about breast cancer, purchasing equipment for breast cancer diagnosis and providing continuing education for the Breast Center staff. In years past have supported friends through a financial contribution. However this year I decided to step it up a notch after the second one of my very special aunts was diagnosed with breast cancer. My precious Aunt Faye has been in remission for 23 years. WOW! I was so young when she battled it that I don’t really remember much about it other than her being sick. My precious Aunt Sherry was just diagnosed this summer and had her mastectomy only four weeks ago. She is so brave she actually came down from Nashville and walked with our team. She is amazing! And the night before the race we got the GREAT news that she will not have to do chemo…praise the Lord! So you can see why this great cause got me off the couch to attempt my very first 5K. It was so invigorating and emotional…it was just amazing. And something we plan to make an annual event in our family. So here are some of the photos from that day. Me, Mom, Aunt Sherry and Aunt Faye. Mom is holding up the signs we wore on our shirts which said "In Honor of Sherry Woodard and Faye Burton"

Liz Hurley cheering us on at the start line.

Team Ta-Ta Sisterhood joined together to raise over $1,500 and walk/run/crawl in the fight against breast cancer. Other breast cancer survivors on our team were our river friends Joanne Gromek and my co-captain's (Lori Best) mom Deb Holt. Joanne is shown in the far right of the picture wearing #1795 and Deb is in the center of the back row (right over Aunt Sherry's left shoulder).
Crossing the finish line was so emotional...I was fighting back tears while also starving for oxygen. Liz Hurley was there passing out smiles, high fives and even hugs!

  1. This is great! One of our local news anchors here has battled breast cancer twice and also created a foundation. It's nice they can use their local celebrity to raise awareness. Love it!

I liked where you said walk/run/crawl...haha! Crawl it would be!
